Sign in with fingerprint or screen lock
Turn on fingerprint, face or screen-lock sign-in in the app, and when it turns itself off.
2 min read
Tired of typing your password? Turn on fingerprint sign-in and unlock the app with your fingerprint, your face or your phone's screen lock instead. You sign in with your password once, and after that your phone does it for you.
Works in:Android app
What you need
- The Android app, version 1.2.8 or newer. See Update the app.
- A fingerprint, or a screen lock (PIN, pattern or password), set up in your phone's settings.
What unlocks it depends on your phone:
- Android 11 and newer: your fingerprint, your face (on phones where Android treats face unlock as secure), or your PIN, pattern or password.
- Android 7 to 10: your fingerprint only.
Turn it on
- Sign in with your email and password as usual.
- Open Settings, then Security.
- Turn on Sign in with fingerprint.
- If you signed in more than 10 minutes ago, enter your password to confirm it's you.
- Unlock once with your fingerprint or screen lock to confirm.
You see "Fingerprint sign-in is on."
If the switch is grey, your phone has no fingerprint or screen lock yet. Add one in your phone's settings, then come back.
Sign in with it
When you open the app signed out, it greets you ("Welcome back") and asks for your fingerprint straight away. Unlock, and you're in. There is no password and no sign-in code to type.
Want to use your password this time? Tap Use password instead. To go back to your fingerprint, tap Sign in with fingerprint under the form.
Turn it off
Open Settings, then Security, and turn off Sign in with fingerprint. It stops working on this phone straight away.
When it stops working by itself
For your safety, fingerprint sign-in turns off, and the app asks for your password, when:
- someone adds a new fingerprint to the phone;
- you change or reset your password;
- you use Sign out everywhere (see Devices and signing out);
- someone else signs in on this phone with their own account.
Sign in with your password, then turn it on again in Settings, Security.
